Shaker Regional School District
Belmont is joined by the neighboring Town of Canterbury in the Shaker Regional School District. Although both towns have elementary schools, middle and high school facilities for both towns are provided in Belmont. The combined District budget is over $13 million.
Construction of the new high school was completed in 1998 and in the autumn of 1998 the high school population was able to occupy that space, which allowed for physical, curriculum and technological expansion. The former High School has since become the Middle School, receiving over $1 million in renovations.
Over fourteen hundred students attend schools in Belmont. The schools offer a full list of educational classes, advanced placement classes and opportunities for vocational instruction and involvement. The Belmont Elementary Support Team (B.E.S.T.) consisting of parents, community members and staff, provides continual support for quality education within the community.
Within the last five years, the Belmont Schools have been reaccredited. They have achieved additional recognition with the New Hampshire's Teacher of the Year for 1999, Vicki Donovan, is an educator at the Belmont Elementary School. Also, the Belmont Elementary School was a finalist for the Elementary School of the year 2000-2001.
The sports program in Belmont begins in the elementary schools and continues through high school. Spirited teams in baseball, soccer, softball, basketball, volleyball, track and other sports receive enthusiastic support from students, parents and the community.
Students are active in many additional programs and organizations. The DARE program is presented by the Belmont Police Department and students staff the Peer Outreach Program at the High School.
Belmont has very high expectations for its students and continues to push for them to be prepared for careers in today's world. Our schools are formed around caring, involved students, parents and educators. Whether taking part in career days, watching a musical performance or cheering on a sports team, our community commitment to youth and education is unfailing.
New Hampshire College as well as the New Hampshire Technical College have an excellent array of classes whether taken as part of a degree program or for fun.
