Belmont Master Plan

Conservation and Preservation

Notes on meeting

07/09/01

Members Present:  Mark Condodmetraky, Linda Frawley, Ken Knowlton, Jeff Marden, Sue Roberts

Members gave progress reports on their respective “interest assignments”. Jeff Marden has been researching for Wildlife with NH Fish and Game, as well as on the net.  He presented two more possible resources he has found through UNH.  Project Serve and The Community Environment Outreach Program.  These may prove to be future contacts for this group as well as the Conservation Commission.

Mark Condodmetraky continues his aquifer study with various state agencies and will set up a line of communication with representatives from the Tilton and Northfield Conservation Commissions regarding our shared aquifer along NH Route 140.

Linda Frawley has done extensive research into the historical sites in Belmont and has set up a line of communication with Wallace P Rhodes of the Belmont Historical Society.  She has also put together a list of resources that are available to our subcommittee, as well as others working on the Master Plan.

We received a memo from Naomi Caldwell citing her thoughts and conclusions after reading the results of the 1979 & 1989 surveys, the 2000 questionnaire and how they relate to the need for educating the public.  As in all aspects having to do with the Master Plan, a well informed and interested public is paramount to the success of what we are trying to accomplish in developing this plan.

And finally, it was pointed out by Linda Frawley that it is important we start to prioritize our goals so that we do not keep going over the same subjects meeting after meeting, that we remain focused on our goals, and set up a schedule to help us in achieving each in a timely manner.  Each member should be formulating their “goal list”, prioritizing each by importance, and thinking about a rough time table for completion.  Two important dates to keep in mind are August 11th, Old Home Day (I would really like to have a hand-out of some kind for this event) and November 2nd and/or 3rd,, the proposed date for a community wide meeting.  We should also start thinking about questions (concerning conservation and preservation) that we would like to see included in the 2001 questionnaire that will be sent out by the Planning Board in the near future.

Our next meeting will be held on Wed. 07/25/01 at 7:00pm.  It will take place at the Town Hall, provided the space is available.  Please start working on your “goal list” for this meeting.
