Belmont
Master Plan:
Discussion:
Committee members take the
update of the master plan very seriously. We
feel that if we have clear, concise input from the citizenry that we will avoid
conflict at a later date. We do not
want this put aside to be reviewed 10 years from now.
We congratulate past citizens for their the time and effort to take us up
to this point, and realize with a growing population we must make every effort
to conserve and protect the natural resources of our town, to ensure the safety
and convenience of our residents as they travel in Belmont.
Alternative
Transportation:
Discussion:
We discussed the increased need
for public transportation in Belmont for the growing numbers of our elderly
population, the disabled, the handicapped, and others who need transportation
for a variety of reasons.
Goals
·
Identify existing alternative transportation. Will bring a
list to the next meeting.
·
Identify proposed
alternative transportation. BRATT and Hobo Rails being a couple of examples
·
Identify and document the need for increased convenience of
mobility for the people of Belmont
·
Remind officials that Belmont is part of the Lakes Region.
·
Invite a representative from GLTA to attend our meeting on
August. 20.
East
West Highway:
Discussion:
The committee discussed in
depth the need for an East/West highway.
The committee without dissent
finds that the current ability to transit Belmont on Rt. 140 is inadequate and
not safe. And further without
dissent the plans that are now being considered might better have been in the
plan 10 years ago, and will not be satisfactory for our future needs.
Road
Conditions:
Discussion:
Members felt that it is very
important for the town to hire professional sub contractors to build roads in
the town of Belmont, and with the Road Agent under the direction of the town
administrator to assure accountability, and follow up.
We will discuss maintenance of the town roads.
·
Bonding should be required prior to logging or construction
to fund repairs or reconstruction, if damage should occur to the road. This
would assure accountability to the town of Belmont.
·
The road agent will be invited to attend a future meeting
at the town hall to discuss what condition the local roads are in, and is there
a 10 year plan for s upgrades.
Safety
Discussion:
·
Members discussed the lack of sidewalks, and or lack of
shoulders to make life safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and other.
·
There was agreement this should be part of planning
process.
