Location: Belmont Library, 146 Main Street

In 1893, the New Hampshire legislature offered support to any town wanting a public library. Belmont Public Library opened 125 years ago on Main Street. For a while, official quarters were in the Millís Hose House, sharing space with the selectmenís office. In 1927, George and Walter Duffy, owners of the Belmont Mill, made a generous donation of the current library building, dedicated February 4, 1928.

The Library staff and trustees have plans to celebrate the dual anniversaries throughout 2018. To start, all are welcome at the 90th Anniversary Open House on Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 1-3pm. There will be memorabilia and artifacts from the library history on display. The Library is looking for more pictures and stories about the building, so share a special memory at this event or any time you visit the library.

The Belmont Public Library is open six days a week and any time at, serving the community with books, digital resources, and cultural programming. In 2018, we are celebrating 125 years as a public library, serving ninety years from the Colonial Revival National Register building.
