3/8/16  The Inter-municipal Agreement between the Town of Belmont and the City of Laconia relative to utilizing a regional approach to Fire Department Administration was approved by the Belmont Board of Selectmen at their meeting on Monday, March 7, 2016 and it is proposed to go before the City Council at their next meeting on Monday, March 14, 2016. Appointment of Chief Kenneth Erickson as the Belmont Fire Chief will take place once the document is fully acknowledged by all parties.

2/24/16  The town of Belmont and the city of Laconia are very pleased to announce that we have agreed to enter into an inter-municipal agreement for the purpose of sharing Fire Chief Administration between the two communities.

Upon execution of the inter-municipal agreement by both legislative bodies, Chief Kenneth Erickson will be appointed Chief of the Belmont Fire Department in addition to his current appointment as Chief of the Laconia Fire Department.

Both communities are actively working to formalize the final agreement and expect this to occur in the coming weeks.

This is an exciting time for the town of Belmont, members of the Belmont Fire Department and the city of Laconia. We believe this new shared administrative service model will lead to additional cost saving and innovative ideas in the future for our two communities, and potentially the Lakes Region.

New Fire Station Built through Donations

In 1991 the Belmont Fire Department launched a fund drive to construct a new Fire Station in the Village. Ground-breaking for the new Station occured in 1994 and the Department moved from its old location on Fuller Street to the new Station in 1995.  The vacated Fire Station was converted for use as a Police Station.

The Station was constructed with $120,000 in cash donations; with the remainder of the cost coming from donations of equipment, supplies and labor.

The Station will continue to function as an important community service provider as part of the Revitalizaation Project.
